about

Level Up. 2008.

As a little kid I couldn't sleep without a radio beside my pillow. It was my companion. But it wasn't just music I listened to, I remember listening to the early adventures of the space exploration vehicle, Voyager; it was personified, heroic, intrepid, on a one way mission into the unknown, like life. Somewhere along the line something of the spirit of those early years with the radio came out as this song.
It's meant to be a pop song for the radio that sings about being the kind of pop song on the radio that you look forward to hearing, on the radio. Like the Eurythmics Thorn In My Side, or Queen, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. It's too clever for its own good. It's dabbling with sorcery. Aside from all that, it's vintage JPM. I sang this over the phone once, on a lunch break at work, for a live to air performance and interview in South Australia.
